ASSESSMENT

An important first step in your child's journey, is participating in a speech and/or language assessment, where we can determine appropriate intervention targets and begin the therapy process.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPY

Following an assessment, intervention targets are assigned specific to your child's needs. These targets are taught through fun, engaging and reinforcing activities.  All therapy follows evidence based intervention strategies.

TELETHERAPY - LONG DISTANCE THERAPY

We are aware that sometimes it is not possible to travel for therapy sessions, or resources are limited locally, or simply, it is not safe to do so.  We are delighted to offer therapy or consultations through online platforms.  We hope that this will make life easier for many.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES A SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST DO?

Speech and language therapists adopt a holistic view when working with children.  They assess their needs across a range of areas; communication, speech, receptive and expressive language development and their social skills.  Core deficits are identified and an intervention plan is developed based on their priority needs, their strengths and weaknesses. Speech and language therapists sometimes work with children with feeding difficulties, in particular picky eaters and children with food selectivity issues.  Speech and language therapists work collaboratively with parents, teachers, occupational therapists, behaviour support teams and other professionals.  As well as this, they use systems and strategies that have a strong evidence base.

HOW DO YOU KEEP MY DATA SECURE?

At The Speech Sound Clinic, our priority is to keep your personal information secure and safe in accordance with GDPR requirements.  We use WriteUpp, which is a cloud based client note taking platform that is specifically GDPR compliant.  This ensures your data is safe and secure at all times, while also enabling us to secure online payments safely through Stripe.

You can view our GDPR and Privacy Policy below.

ARE YOUR FEES COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES OR THE MED 1 FORM?

Yes. You can claim 20% of a fee back through the MED 1 form, which can be obtained through the revenue website.

Most health insurance companies offer a percentage of our fee back.  However, we recommend that you contact and speak directly to your health insurer for more information on your specific policy and your entitlements.

WHAT AGE GROUP DO YOU WORK WITH? IS MY CHILD TOO YOUNG?

We work with children of all ages, depending on the area of concern.  We can work with children as young as 12-18 months, or adolescents in their mid to late teens.  We also work with some adults.

I AM WORRIED ABOUT MY CHILD'S SPEECH, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you're concerned or worried, don't feel that you are alone.  Pick up the phone and give us a call, or send a quick email with your concerns and we'll get back to you with some advice on what to do next. Children learn in different ways and meet milestones at different times, so a chat might put your mind at ease.

WHERE DO YOU OFFER THERAPY? DO I TRAVEL TO YOU?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, all therapy and consultations will take place via Teletherapy, usually using Zoom.

Once restrictions have been lifted, we carry out sessions in your home.

New Clinic Opening:  We are excited that our new clinic building will be open in mid to late Summer 2020. This will be located just outside Enfield, Co. Meath. More information to follow.
